The goals of this project were the development of next generation smart perception sensors and enhance the distributed intelligence paradigm to build versatile, secure, reliable, and proactive human monitoring solutions for the health, wellbeing, and automotive domains. Aitek has provided its expertise in video analytics based on AI models to describe the driver’s visual distractions in the context of use case 2 leaded by Relab Srl.

A video analytics algorithm, developed by Aitek, exploits machine learning models in order to monitor the face and hand position of the driver, and generates an alert when the vehicle driver is turned away or takes his hands off the steering wheel to use the radio or smartphone.

In this video Vanessa Orani (Aitek R&D division) explains the final events of interest that the Aitek module is able to detect and communicate to the central node.

The Nextperception project brought together 43 partners from 7 countries, including major industrial players and prominent research centres and universities and addressed top challenges in health, wellbeing, and automotive domains through three use cases: integral vitality monitoring for elderly and exercise, driver monitoring, and providing safety and comfort for vulnerable road users at intersections.
