Aitek offers solutions for the license plates identification of vehicles crossing a toll gate by processing images from video cameras installed at toll stations, parking lots, limited traffic zones, private or off-limit areas etc. AiVu Target can detect vehicles registration numbers and associate images from the rear of vehicles with traffic data (number/license plate, date/time, toll station number).
AiVu-TarGet simplifies the procedures for the control of accesses by people and vehicles to port entrance/exit passages.
Acquisition and elaboration
Image analysis of vehicle back plate is performed in three stages:
1) Segmentation: image is elaborated to isolate regions containing a plate characters.
2) OCR (Optical Character Recognition): identified regions are elaborated to classify the plate characters.
3) Validation: results obtained from previous analysis are checked against a set of heuristic criteria: e.g. existing administrative directives regarding the order of letters and numerals, resulting character position on the plate. Final outcome is a string of characters representing the licence plate.
Transit management
The image of vehicle and the corresponding data (date, time, gate number, licence plate record), are stored within a Relational Database structure residing on a local hard disk. AiVu-TarGet features an embedded web server making it accessible through IP network and making it easy to be managed and configured using the common Internet browsers. A user-friendly web interface provides easy access to data in Database.

Travelling time calculation
The licence plates of the vehicles in transit are read through a series of portals on the road, on which infrared cameras are located for scanning the number plates of the vehicles in transit. Image processing allows the real-time production of statistical data concerning the average speed, the travelling time and the number of vehicles passing through a road section.
